Health Minister Greg Hunt says it is up to the state and territory leaders to ease lockdown restrictions “when they feel that they are ready to do that”.

When asked about perceived inconsistencies in relaxing restrictions, Mr Hunt said the states and territories adopted the national cabinet’s baselines “more quickly than we expected”.

He said it was up to the discretion of leaders to decide how and when some measures would be eased but reassured the public that the national goal was to be “consistent with the health advice”.

Mr Hunt also announced the national cabinet would look at the “speed and consistency of the adoption of those baselines” when it met on Friday.
