JOHANNESBURG - Book lovers will be treated to a storytelling feast on Saturday.

The Ethnikids Heartbeat Drumbeat book reading festival is taking place at the Nirox Sculpture Park in Krugersdorp.

Co-founder of Ethnikids Khumo Tapfumaneyi said the festival was birthed in order to connect parents to diverse books that they could read to their children.

"Ethni kids was founded by myself and my friends. Four of us, so there are five co-founders and we are all mothers"

We found that in the market, in mainstream bookstores we weren't finding the kind of material that we wanted to read to our children, which is representative and in all of our mother tongues."

Ten-year-old Michelle Nkamankeng, who has published two books, is one of the young authors that will be reading her books at the festival.

"At the age of four years old, I discovered reading, that it was my talent and I enjoyed it so much", said Nkamankeng.
