NEW YORK - US singer Demi Lovato has officially taken down her Twitter account.

Lovato deactivated her account after she received backlash for her comment about 21 Savage's arrest by US customs officials.

Demi tweeted: "So far 21 savage memes have been my favorite part of the Super Bowl."

Singer Demi Lovato awake after suspected overdose: reports

Although the 26-year-old singer tried to clarify her tweet many people felt that she was being insensitive considering all the support she received last year after being hospitalized over a suspected drug overdose.

21 Savage, real name Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested on Sunday and could be deported for overstaying his visa in the US.

Before taking down her account Lovato said people should not be bringing up her past while attacking her.

"If you're gonna come at me for making a joke, try coming at me with some original not involving drugs", wrote Lovato.

Despite the backlash many people defended Demi and said it was surprising that she was being attacked while everyone else was allowed to make fun of 21 Savage's situation.
