The Board of Governors for the Academy is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, and will need to figure out who should host the glitzy event in February.

We thought we could help them out, below is a list of the top five candidates who would make the perfect host:

5. Donald Glover

Donald Glover's background in comedy makes him a strong candidate for hosting the Academy Awards. He was a writer for NBC's 30 Rock and his hit show Atlanta and music make him a firm favourite with the younger generation. Glover, also known as Childish Gambino would bring diversity to the stage.

4. Melissa McCarthy

Actress Melissa McCarthy has managed to establish herself as one of Hollywood's top comedic performers and although she does not have much experience with hosting, her outrages characters in movies such as The Heat, Bridesmaid and Identity Theft mean she can adapt to any situation, including hosting the Academy Awards.

3. Will Smith

The Bad Boys actor has managed to remain relevant in every generation, whether it's through music, movies or comedy, Smith is able to cater for large and diverse audiences and that would mean greater ratings for the Academy Awards.

2. Ellen DeGeneres

The three-time Academy Award host would would be a solid and safe bet for this year's open position. DeGeneres' previous stints as Academy host have garnered massive reviews.

1. Tiffany Haddish

Tiffany Haddish has managed to stay afloat following her break-out role in Girls Trip. Haddish has a long history as a stand up comedian and made history in 2017 when she became the first black female to host Saturday Night Live.
