JOHANNESBURG - Rachel Kolisi has been clear in her views on how people on social media should talk about her husband, Springbok captain Siya Kolisi.

On Tuesday she managed to ignite a trending hashtag on Twitter with one emoji.

After Kolisi was tagged in the comments of an Instagram influencer's photos with Siya, Rachel commented a 'cup and straw' emoji on the same post.

This emoji is sometimes interpreted to mean 'thirsty', slang meaning desperate for attention or displaying attraction for someone in a way that is obvious.

The comment -- when taken in conjunction with Rachel's previous social media posts about her marriage -- caused a wave of conversation.

Rachel confronted a Twitter poster in July about a tweet saying she would make an exception to her policy of not dating married men for Kolisi, who she described as her “type”.

Rachel asked women to respect her and her relationship.

This incident has had some social media users speculating that "thirsty" posts have been made to purposefully antagonise her into reacting publicly.

Some people have drawn comparisons with another high-profile woman who asked women to leave her husband alone, Enhle Mbali Maphumulo asked why some women keep messaging her husband, DJ Black Coffee privately.

Enhle reflected on how hurtful it was that her 'sisters' attacked her when cheating allegations involving the DJ surfaced in 2013.
