First Dominican American NYPD cop promoted to two star chief

over 6 years in NY Daily

History was made at Police Headquarters this week — NYPD Inspector Fausto Pichardo became the first cop from the Caribbean nation to be promoted to a two-star chief.

“Once again Police Commissioner James O’Neill is acknowledging a hard working Dominican on this job!” the New York Dominican Officers group wrote on Facebook.

Pichardo, 40, was selected Thursday to be the executive officer for the department’s Patrol Services Bureau. He will work under new Chief of Patrol Rodney Harrison.

He joined the department in 1999 and spent most of his career in Manhattan and the Bronx. He ran the 43rd Precinct in Soundview before his reassignment.
