THE second practice match between the TT Red Force Super50 Cup squad and the TT Bolivarian XI was abandoned because of rain at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain on November 5.
Despite Red Force getting to a competent 358/5 from 44.2 overs, the heavens opened and spoilt the day’s play. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the Super50 team displayed aggression with the bat. Middle-order batsman Jyd Goolie showed good form as he smashed a fast-paced 151 not out, from 81 balls, before retiring. He hit 22 fours and five sixes.
Captain Joshua Da Silva also had a solid showing as he hit 89 from 54 balls, seven fours and seven sixes respectively, while opener Navin Bidaisee struck a slower but steady 71 runs from 80 balls.
However, with Joshua James (18 not out) and Bryan Charles (five not out) in the middle, and just over five overs remaining in the 50-over contest, rain began to fall for a lengthy period, forcing the game’s abandonment. Goolie and Bidaisee constructed a stern 133-run partnership, while Da Silva, after Goolie and skipper Da Silva built a 113-run stance. In the opening practice match on November 3, the Super50 team won by five wickets after they raced to a victorious 305/5 from 3.2 overs. This, after the Bolivarian Games team scored 317/9 (44 overs), batting first. The Super50 team were, however, were given a revised target of 304.
