Trinidad and Tobago Football Association VP CFU U ١٤ Girls' Challenge Series met our objectives

Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) third vice-president Jameson Rigues says the involvement of the two TT teams in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Girls' Under-14 Challenge Series has so far met the objectives of the governing body for local football.
TT fielded two teams in the tournament, with the national Under-14 girls' team being joined by a TT High Performance squad which came into the tourney after the withdrawal of Haiti. After finishing in cellar positions in their tier one groups, the TT teams finished seventh and eighth respectively as the national Under-14 squad hammered their High Performance counterparts 7-0 in a seventh-place playoff at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, on August 20.
Speaking to Newsday on August 21, Rigues said the long-term development of the players outweigh the immediate results in this tournament which definitely were underwhelming.
"I'm in no way feeling slighted about any results, particularly. I thank the girls for putting themselves out there and representing their country at this very young and tender age," he said.
"This tournament would have provided that avenue – their first major tournament to feel out these players to see what they could do and what work needs to be done with them. I think all in all, we would have achieved the objective in terms of being able to identify those players who need particular work done with them to aid in their development."
He said the inclusion of the High Performance team was a last minute one, but said the association facilitated their participation to give the girls the experience necessary for their development.
For the High Performance team, it was the end of a torrid tournament which saw them finishing Group A with three heavy losses and a goal difference of -22. For the TT Under-14 girls, it was a lopsided victory to end their tier one campaign which featured three group stage defeats in matches where they showed fight but were ultimately unable to come away with any points.
In their first game, TT fell 2-1 to Aruba after initially jumping out to a 1-0 halftime lead. In their second game, TT conceded late in either half to go down 2-0 to Bermuda. Meanwhile, in their final Group B game, TT were beaten 3-1 by their Caribbean rivals Jamaica.
It didn't take long for TT to find the net against their High Performance counterparts in the seventh-place playoff, as Tyra McKenna fired a left-footed shot into the bottom corner after dispossessing a defender in the first minute.
TT scored early and often in the clash with Azizi Clarke scoring a well-taken hat-trick to go along with a brace from substitute Gloria Henry. Clarke's first came in the sixth minute when she curled a left-footed shot into the bottom corner to punish the High Performance team which made a habit of not clearing their defensive lines.
By the half, Clarke had two goals while Lexi Sankersingh chipped in with a free kick from 30-plus yards to give TT a 4-0 lead.
A willing runner, Henry tallied a quick brace with goals in the 54th and 67th minutes, while Clarke arguably saved her best for last with a right-footed bomb from just outside the area in the 70th minute after faking Mya Henry out of the play with a slick turn.
Martinique placed fifth in tier one as they defeated Aruba 2-1 in the second game of the Ato Boldon double-header. The tournament is scheduled to conclude at the Couva venue on August 24 when the tier one and tier two finals are contested. (with reporting by Gregory McBurnie)
