‘Another sign of incompetence’ Labor ‘can’t deliver’ on Veterans Suicide recommendations

Shadow Veterans Affairs Minister Barnaby Joyce has called out the Albanese government for “another sign of incompetence” as they “can’t deliver” on recommendation one from the Royal Commission into Defence and Veterans Suicide.

Today marks two months since the Royal Commission asked the government to act on its recommendations.

“It’s yet another sign of the incompetence of the Labor government,” Mr Joyce told Sky News Australia.

“On the 22nd of December, recommendation number one from the Royal Commission, said you’ve got to get three acts – DRCA, MRCA and VEA – and combine them into one.

“It was supposed to come out on the 22nd of December. We are now in the 22nd of February, so what’s happened? We’re two months late.

“If they can’t deliver on recommendation number one from the Royal Commission, then I’m starting to get really worried about any further recommendations.

“This is a litmus test as to whether not having the minister in cabinet and whether the government has the capacity and the competency to deliver on the basic issues of government, and, in this case, recommendation one from the Royal Commission.”
