Peter Dutton blasts High Commissioner for being ‘embarrassed to be Australian’
about 2 years in news
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has blasted Australia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Stephen Smith for being ashamed of Australia Day.
This comes after the decision to cancel an Australia Day gala dinner in London next year.
The Coalition are furious about the cancellation, with Mr Dutton calling on the government to intervene.
“The Albanese government needs to call up the High Commissioner … but he needs to announce today that he made an error in judgement – that he made the wrong decision,” Mr Dutton said.
“You can’t have a high commissioner who is embarrassed to be Australian.”
