Australia’s High Commissioner to the UK has cancelled an annual Australia Day Gala Dinner in London.
Stephen Smith has prevented the event from going ahead due to sensitivities around celebrating on the national day.
The black-tie event honours Australians and British people who contribute to the two nations’ bilateral relationship.
Nationals Leader David Littleproud has criticised the move.
“This is an appalling act by the High Commissioner,” he said.
