Former US president Donald Trump has surpassed Joe Biden as preferred leader in a recent poll.
The Wall Street Journal poll shows Mr Trump leading Mr Biden 47 per cent to 43.
It is the first time the poll has shown Mr Biden falling behind his rival, in what is now the lowest approval rating of his presidency.
Mr Trump’s lead has expanded to six points, 37 per cent to 31 per cent when five third-party and independent candidates are added to the mix, taking a combined 17 per cent in support with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. drawing the most at eight per cent.
Former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador Nikki Haley has the widest margin, up 17 points, 51 per cent to 34 per cent.
The poll follows Mr Biden calling his predecessor, Mr Trump, “despicable” at an event in California.
