Lawyer shoots down sex harassment claims against ex Cuomo aide

over 6 years in NY Daily

A former aide to Gov. Cuomo accused of sexual harassment had a “consensual” relationship with the alleged victim, the man’s lawyer said Sunday.

Sam Hoyt, a married economic development aide, denied that he tried to force himself on Lisa Marie Cater in 2015 when he ran the Empire State Development Corp.’s Buffalo office. Hoyt abruptly resigned last month.

“Sam has previously acknowledged and expressed regret for a short-term, consensual relationship with Ms. Cater,” Hoyt’s lawyer, Terrence Connors, said in a statement. “These new allegations are totally inconsistent with her original story and contradicted by her own email and text message correspondence.”

But Cater alleges in a federal lawsuit that after Hoyt helped her secure a job with the state Department of Motor Vehicles, he forcefully kissed and groped her during multiple unwanted visits to her home, sent her naked pictures of himself and even grabbed her crotch.

“Under the law, that is defined as quid pro quo sexual harassment,” said Cater’s lawyer, Paul Liggieri.
