Daily-rated workers across 11 regional and borough corporations were promoted to permanent positions during the Signing of Permanent Establishments (Cadres) for The Biennial Review Period 2018-2019 at Kent House, Maraval, on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government’s communications department told Newsday the daily rated workers were transitioned to fill vacancies left by permanent workers between 2018 and 2019.
“The process of filling permanent vacancies is through seniority, where daily rated workers move from regular/casual to permanent status,” it said. “These lists were reviewed with the union, corporation and ministry to ensure accuracy and transparency. Each list, upon agreement by all parties, was signed by each entity on an agreed date and time.” A release from the ministry said the initiative “underscores the commitment to building a stable and secure workforce, fostering a positive impact on the lives of these workers and their families.”
It said key dignitaries present at the ceremony included permanent secretary Desdra Bascombe, deputy permanent secretaries Peter Mitchell and Annalean Inniss, and president general of the National Union of Government & Federated Workers (NUGFW) James Lambert. Also at the event were several mayors, chairmen, vice chairmen, chief executive officers, personnel and industrial relations officers, and other union and ministry officials.
