President Joe Biden is condemning what he says is the “appalling assault” against Israel by Hamas militants. His administration is pledging to ensure that Israel has “what it needs to defend itself” after the surprise attack that's drawn worldwide condemnation and anger from Israel’s allies. The White House says Biden made clear in a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that “we stand ready to offer all appropriate means of support." Secretary of State Antony Blinken rushed to the White House for meetings. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin spoke with Israel's defense minister. Other world leaders joined Biden is stressing that Israel has a right to defend itself and they pledged solidarity with the Jewish state.
