There is a big milestone for Victoria's public transport as the first of Melbourne's five new Metro Tunnel stations is almost complete.

The transport project is an attempt to ease pressure on the city loop line by linking the city's northwest to the southeast.

Test trains are already running ahead of the Metro Tunnel Project's opening, which has been slated for 2025.

Newly appointed Premier Jacinta Allan called the progress “another big milestone” for the state of Victoria.

Ms Allan also praised the fact the tunnel is one whole year ahead of schedule.
