Gina Rinehart could disrupt $6.6 billion bid of Australian lithium company

US battery company Albemarle’s $6.6 billion takeover bid for Australia lithium player Liontown could be in jeopardy.

According to Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood, Gina Rinehart's Hancock Prospecting again lifted its stake in Liontown, this time closer to 15 per cent.

Hancock has been vigorously buying Liontown shares, almost 48 million of them yesterday at an average price of $3.

“Whether Gina Rinehart is trying to launch her own takeover for the lithium player, that’s yet to be revealed,” Mr Greenwood said.

“What is clear is that her shareholding is now close enough to a point where it can disrupt Albemarle’s takeover.”
