TRINIDAD and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) technical director Anton Corneal said the TTFA A License Coaching course is about helping the lower ranked Caribbean nations lift their standard of coaching.
The course kicked off at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain on Monday.
Several local and regional coaches are participating in the course including members of the national men’s senior football coaching staff. Head coach Angus Eve and his assistant coaches Derek King and Reynold Carrington have signed up for the course.
Former coach of the Jamaica men’s senior team Theodore Whitmore is also attending.
The eight-day course will cover a lot of topics such as leadership, attacking in the opponent’s half, player development and modern trends in the game.
Corneal is the main facilitator of the course.
In a short interview with Newsday, Corneal said, “Since the inception of the course it is really for the Caribbean. It is for us also, but we have to embrace the Caribbean.”
Corneal said administrators from Caribbean countries other than TT and Jamaica must get the opportunity to lift their level of coaching.
“I think that it is important for TT and Jamaica to make sure that we don’t go ahead alone, that we can walk with the others and how we can possibly help we can help.”
Corneal, who is elated to see Eve and his team taking part, spoke about some of the main topics.
“All of them (are important). One would be leadership, how we lead. We have systems of play because we have this influx of systems of play. Modern trends in the game (will be looked at). We will look at the 2023 Gold Cup (and) we will look at the last World Cup, some of the modern trends that we are seeing.”
