China's state media has reported the country's foreign minister Qin Gang has been removed from office.

The 57-year-old has not made public appearances for the last month – prompting speculation about his position.

The foreign ministry previously cited health reasons for Mr Qin's absence, during which time China's top diplomat took on many of the foreign minister's duties.

Wang Yi has replaced Mr Gang in the position.
