Federal prosecutors say a grand jury has indicted six people in an alleged conspiracy to use drones to smuggle contraband into the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth. The indictment unsealed Wednesday alleges that two inmates conspired with four people outside of prison to use a drone to smuggle cell phones, the synthetic drug K2, marijuana and tobacco into the yard at penitentiary between August 2020 and May 2021. The indictment says inmates asked for the smuggled items. Four of the suspects are from Nebraska and the other two are from California. The indictment was unsealed after all the suspects were arrested.
