Words matter with Kel Richards Origin of the phrase ‘barking up the wrong tree’

Broadcaster and Wordsmith Kel Richards has discussed the origin of the phrase ‘barking up the wrong tree’.

“That’s certainly about the behaviour of dogs, so the dog thinks he’s got the cat tree’d, in a particular tree, but the cat is over there in the next paddock,” Mr Richards told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“It’s simply to do with the idea that you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time, barking up the wrong tree from the behaviour of dogs.”
