The Australian’s National Editor Dennis Shanahan says the Labor government’s visa overhaul puts pressure on the “integrity of immigration system”.

“I’ve spoken to Labor ministers over the years who have been in tears and who have kept photographs of drowned children with them,” he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“To remind them of the real compassion of trying to stop people embarking on illegal and dangerous people smuggling efforts to come to Australia.”
