Miners, Carpenters, and Volunteers Rescue Boy From Rubble in Antakya

A group of volunteers including miners, carpenters, and other tradespeople from Merzifon, Turkey, rescued a young boy from the rubble in Antakya on Tuesday, February 7, after devastating earthquakes hit the region. Footage released by Merzifon mayor Alp Kargi shows a child, whom he identified as Cinar, being pulled from the rubble. Kargi said 14 volunteers traveled from Merzifon to Antakya to assist in relief efforts following the earthquakes. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the death toll had risen to 16,170 by February 9, according to local news. Turkey’s disaster management agency, AFAD, said close to 25,000 search and rescue personnel were working in the aftermath of the quakes.
