PREMIER League clubs scored a major victory for the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board by sweeping the elections for six available positions to serve in the 2022-2026 term.
The poll was staged on Saturday at the Alloy Lequay Administration Centre of the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva when two representatives of each club cast their vote.
The representatives elected to represent the Premier League I and II, the top tiers of local cricket are: Kalaprasad Sanise (32 votes) Cosmos; Frank Simmons (29) Defence Force; Rajindra Poorai (29) Marchin Patriots; Richard Ramkissoon (28) Central Sports; Adrian Ali (28) Marchin Patriots; and Sebastian Edwards (27) Merryboys.
The results recorded another resounding defeat for former TT and West Indies leg-spinner Dinanath Ramnarine who campaigned vociferously for the slate which was rejected. The ex-president of the West Indies Players’ Association has led several unsuccessful attempts to oust the current TTCB executive.
And in an immediate response, president of the TTCB Azim Bassarath, who endorsed the eventual victors, said the group of winners was clearly the best people to represent the Premier League going forward.
He said most has had valuable experience at the top level of cricket league administration which was evidenced by the successful results of the 2022 season after two years when covid19 regulations prevented any local cricket.
“I want to congratulate all the winners in whom the clubs have placed their utmost confidence and I am certain they will continue to a very good job in the coming seasons as cricket gets into high gear,” said Bassarath.
He also commended the Elections Committee which he said conducted the elections in their usual professional and efficient manner which was above reproach.
The local cricket boss also highlighted the interest shown by the Premier League Clubs which all sent representatives to vote saying that it reflected the high level of stakeholder participation which is admirable.
Bassarath also conveyed his sympathy to the defeated candidates whom he advised to rethink their positions, and the advice they chose to follow which continue to fail them in national cricket elections.
