Three Trinidad and Tobago U12 tennis teams into regional final

TRINIDAD and Tobago added two more teams to next month’s to the International Tennis Federation/Central American and Caribbean Tennis Confederation (ITF/COTECC) regional final when action climaxed at the sub-region four Under-12 Development Championships at the National Racquet Centre, Tacarigua on Thursday.
Joining TT first girls’ team, who qualified on Wednesday, are the boys’ first team and girls’ second team. Both TT teams required and registered crucial wins on Thursday to seal qualification.
The boys’ team remain unbeaten after six rounds of matches as they disposed of US Virgin Islands 3-0. Nirvav Dougdeen beat Henry Collins 6-1, 6-0 in the opening singles, which was followed up by a 6-4, 6-2 triumph courtesy Josiah Hill against Croix Nelthropp.
Hills teamed up with Zelig Williams to defeate Collins/Weston Wagner 6-1, 6-3 in the lone doubles contest.
And for the girls’ second team, they also swept Suriname 3-0 to book a place in the August final round. Madison Khan cruised past Cybelle Ferrier 6-0, 6-4; Lily Mohammed trumped Kayla Currie 6-0, 6-0 and the TT pair partnered to get past Ferrier/Romy Pigot 6-1, 6-2.
The number one ranked TT girls’ team also drubbed Grenada 3-0 as Cherdine Sylvester won 6-1, 6-1 against Destinee Antoine while Abba Campbell-Smith emerged 6-1, 6-0 victor over Carmel McLawrence in the singles.
Standing 2-0 up in the three match contest, Makeda Bain joined forces with Campbell-Smith for the doubles but the former retired hurt, with TT still securing the win.
