JEREEM RICHARDS placed sixth in the men's 200 metres final on Thursday night while fellow Trinidad and Tobago athlete, double Olympic medallist Keshorn Walcott, failed to qualify for the men's javelin final, on the seventh day of the IAAF World Athletics Championships, in Eugene, Oregon, United States.
Richards, who was drawn in lane two, crossed the finish line in 20.08 seconds.
It was a clean sweep for the US as Noah Lyles set an American record time of 19.31 seconds to cop gold. Lyles' time, which broke the legendary Michael Johnson's 19.32 (which was set in 1996), was the third-fastest time ever, behind the Jamaican pair of Usain Bolt (19.19 seconds in 2009) and Yohan Blake (19.26 seconds in 2011).
Kenneth Bednarek was the silver medallist on Thursday, in a season-best 19.77, and teenager Erriyon Knighton earned bronze in 19.80.

In the women's 200m final, Jamaica's Shericka Jackson obliterated the field to claim gold in 21.45 seconds – the second-fastest time in history. US sprinter Florence "Flo Jo" Griffith-Joyner still holds the world record, of 21.34 which was set in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea.
Evergreen Jamaican sprint ace Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was next, in a season-best time of 21.81 and 2019 World champ, Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain, took bronze in 22.02.
Jamaica's Elaine Thompson-Herah struggled from the onset, and ended in seventh place in 22.39.
Jackson copped silver in the women's 100m on Sunday night, with Fraser-Pryce victorious and Thompson-Herah finishing third.
Keshorn Walcott was unable to advance to Saturday's javelin final.
Walcott, who earned gold in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England and bronze four years later in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, had a best effort of 78.87 metres, which was 16th among the 27 entrants. Only the top 12 progressed to the final.
Grenada's Anderson Peters was the best among the qualifiers with a distance of 89.91 metres, and India's Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic champ, was next with a heave of 88.39m.
TT athletes will be back in action on Saturday – the penultimate day of the competition. Tyra Gittens will be involved in the women's long jump qualification and the men's 4x400m relay team (Richards, Dwight St Hillaire, Jerod Elcock, Asa Guevara, Kashief King and Shakeem McKay) will feature in the preliminary round.
