Assistant Foreign Minister Tim Watts says it is in the interest of China and Australia to “stabilise” the relationship between the two countries.

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Australia's Foreign Minister Penny Wong and delivered a four-point list of actions Australia must take to get the relationship between the two countries back on track.

Mr Watts said the meeting was “constructive”.

“What Foreign Minister Wong made clear to Minister Wang Yi was while Australia’s government has changed, Australia’s policy settings and our national interests haven’t,” he told Sky News Australia.
