The Tobago Marlins will play a Trinidad National League team in a three-match series starting on Friday at the Shaw Park cricket grounds.
The matches are designed to give the Tobago cricketers an opportunity to impress the national selectors, against the premium players from the concluded TTCB National League.
The series bowls off with a 50-overs match on Friday at 9.30 am, followed by T20 game on Saturday from 2 pm, and a 40-overs showdown on Sunday, at 10 am. John Pollard was selected as coach and Marcus Daniel as manager.
Kerwin John, president of the Tobago Cricket Association, told Newsday he is pleased with his executive's efforts to continue the development of cricket despite the covid19 pandemic.
The latest initiative, which is free to the public, is a collaboration between the TCA and the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board, (TTCB).
According to John, there is still much cricket still to be played this season.
He said, “The eight Tobago cricket clubs will compete in a T10 competition from July 13-19, at the Cyd Gray Sporting Complex in Roxborough, and the Tobago under-23 players will engage Aranguez Cricket Academy of Trinidad, from July 20-25, in Tobago.
Analysing the season to date, John said, “It was great, given what we accomplished in a short space of time. We were able to launch the season with the Chief Secretary T10 Blast, followed by the 40 overs and T20 competitions.”
Scarborough/Mason Hall Cricket Club, won the 40 overs and T20 tournaments, defeating Canaan/Bon Accord United on both occasions.
John also highlighted the recent accomplishments of former West Indies under-19 player Joshua James.
The Whim native was named in the inaugural list of 15 players, selected by Cricket West Indies, for the Emerging Players Academy, in Antigua, for high-performance training and development sessions.
“It is a great boost for Tobago cricket.
"He is the first Tobago cricketer to achieve that goal, and it is a motivation for the young players coming through the various age groups.”

Tobago Marlins squad: Jahron Alfred (captain), Orlando James (vice-captain), Anthony Providence, Ako George, Kelon Lynch, Dejourn Charles, Kevorn Samuel, Ancil Nedd, Ezekiel Joefield, Keishawn Dillon, Dario Melville, Leron Lezama, Shaquille Duncan. Jason Persad and Ashaughn Pierre.
