THE EDITOR: The United National Congress is in good hands with the Star Team and Kamla Persad-Bissessar at the helm.
The future of the UNC looks bright and this was cemented again with a new powerful mandate given by the thousands of members who, despite the bad weather on Sunday, went out to cast their vote in the party's internal elections.
It is now history that Persad-Bissessar and her Star slate swept the polls. From this resounding victory it is clear the people have again endorsed Persad-Bissessar's leadership.
The preliminary figures showed approximately 13,000 people came out to vote despite the rains, a national adverse-weather warning, flooding, lightning, thunder and even power outages in several areas in the southland.
The Star team got over 95 per cent of the votes cast, based on results coming out from the polling stations so far. This provided a landslide victory for Mrs Persad-Bissessar and her Star team and therefore it is easy to admire Kamla’s courage, her wisdom and her leadership style.
She has shown again that in these challenging times, she commands the majority within the party by bringing the party’s membership together once again.
I join with the rest of the party’s membership in applauding Kamla Persad-Bissessar for the way she has always responded to adversity – an unshakeable will, calm, compassion and respect for others. She is a true leader for our times.
