Former Fiji PM to resist China’s influence

almost 2 years in news

Fiji's former Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has pledged to resist China's influence in the South Pacific if he returns to office this year.

It follows the arrival of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in the capital Suva.

He has met regional leaders in an attempt to get Fiji to sign a new security and trade agreement.

Mr Rabuka has ruled out allowing China to train Fijian military personnel and the establishment of Chinese military bases on Fijian soil.
