Marles taking credit for turning boat back is ‘insane’ and ‘embarrassing’

Sky News host Chris Kenny says Acting Prime Minister Richard Marles taking credit for safely turning back a boat to Sri Lanka is “the most blatant attempt at spin”.

The Australian Border Force announced on election day authorities had intercepted a vessel from Sri Lanka.

Mr Marles confirmed to Sky News Australia on Tuesday, just a day after being sworn in, the government has safely turned the boat back.

“Now Richard Marles not only claims credit that the new government turned it back but he goes public talking about it, it’s just insane,” Mr Kenny told Sky News host Paul Murray.

“These people ought to just concentrate on working out what office they’re going to get, work out what their policies are, and trying to stick by them.

“Because trying to claim credit for something the government did on Saturday is quite embarrassing.”
