Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he follows “protocols” when he was pressed on how his security team handled the former high commissioner to the Solomon Islands.

It comes after former high commissioner to the Solomon Islands Trevor Sofield clashed with the prime minister’s security detail on a routine stop in Tasmania.

When questioned on the matter, Mr Morrison was firm on his position and defended his security team.

“In this job, it’s very important to follow protocols,” he said.

“And I just follow those protocols.”
