Trump returning to Twitter triggers ‘inferno of rage and panic’ among liberals

Liberals have reacted with an “inferno of rage and panic” ever since billionaire Elon Musk said he would restore free speech and former US president Donald Trump to Twitter, Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan says.

“The orthodoxy today is the draconian illiberal world views stamped on public life by woke fundamentalists,” he said.

“This cancel culture mob set all the rules, tramping over our rights to free speech in the process, and anyone who doesn’t conform is instantly slammed, silenced and shamed.

“Much of it is, of course, politically motivated – that's why former president Trump is barred from Twitter even though 74 million people voted for him in a democratic election.

“But Vladimir Putin, the supreme leader of Iran and the Taliban are all still free to tweet.

“This is obviously utterly ridiculous.”

His remarks come after Mr Musk said permanent bans should be “extremely rare” and reserved for accounts that operate bots or spread spam, and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey backed the billionaire’s plan to reinstate Mr Trump’s account.

“Trump told me he doesn’t actually want to return to Twitter, even if he’s allowed to, but I reckon he will change his mind about that,” Mr Morgan said.

“The point is it should be his decision.”
