China has ‘changed’ to adopt an ‘aggressive approach’ Dutton

about 2 years in news

Defence Minister Peter Dutton says Australia needs to keep it’s “eyes wide open” about what is happening in its region.

According to The Australian, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is expected to land in the Solomon Islands ahead of the federal election.

Mr Dutton said tensions with China don’t stop in “our part of the world”, referring to Chinese militia “bumping up” to the Japanese Coast Guard every day.

“Is that Japan that’s changed? Of course it isn’t,” Mr Dutton said.

“It is China that has changed … the approach is aggressive and we have to be realistic about that.”
