Labor ‘trying to pretend’ Lib Parramatta candidate Maria Kovacic ‘is not a local’

Sky News host Chris Kenny says Labor is “trying to pretend” Liberal candidate for Parramatta Maria Kovacic is “not a local”.

It comes after it was discovered Ms Kovacic did not live in the electorate she was running for – despite being entrenched in Western Sydney affairs and even helped form the Western Sydney Executive Women’s group.

Mr Kenny said the Labor candidate for Parramatta Andrew Charlton’s family home is a “$16 million mansion in Sydney’s exclusive Bellevue Hill” before he purchased a house in North Parramatta after he was preselected for the seat.

“Nice to have a Labor candidate who knows how to turn a dollar, but a local he is not – remember when he couldn't name three local restaurants?” Mr Kenny said.

“I think trying to pretend she's not local just highlights how ensconced she is in western Sydney, just emphasises what a blow-in Labor's Charlton is, I mean, I'd back her in to know three local restaurants.”
