Candidates shouldn’t run for seats ‘manifestly’ away from where they live

News Corp columnist David Penberthy says he thinks it should be an "absolute bedrock entry-level requirement" for candidates to live in or near the electorates they want to represent.

Labor’s Parramatta candidate Andrew Charlton and Fowler candidate Kristina Keneally were both parachuted into the electorates despite not living in the suburbs they are currently running in when originally picked.

"If your seat is manifestly away from where you live, I actually don't think you should be eligible to serve your electorate," Mr Penberthy told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
