Andrews under pressure to ‘fix’ health crisis after maternity service issues

about 2 years in news

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is under fire over the state’s health crisis following revelations a regional hospital forced expectant mums to travel hours for maternity services.

Nationals Member for Lowan Emma Kealy revealed Horsham Hospital has suspended maternity services with people being told to go to Ballarat, which is a two-hour drive away.

When asked about the case, Mr Andrews said staff shortages and a lack of willingness for people to work in the regions could be behind the “temporary issues”.

“I saw the Premier today in a hard hat, high-vis vest looking for pats on the back about level crossing removals; how about he fix the health service rather than looking for pats on the back?” Victorian Opposition leader Matthew Guy said.
