Former Prime Minister John Howard says the government had an "obligation" to open the country up again after "closing it down" and forcing Australia into debt.
Mr Howard said the “unique” recession was unlike anything seen prior and the government “had to bail things out”.
“The country went into debt because the country had closed it down and created a recession because of the pandemic, in the name of saving Australian lives,” Mr Howard told Sky News Australia.
