CODA takes out top award at Oscars on star studded night
over 3 years in news
The Academy Awards are always one of Hollywood’s most talked-about nights but this year there was more to talk about than ever.
The ceremony, which made its post-pandemic return, had a host for the first time since 2018, an assault controversy, and awarded some of the most prestigious prizes in showbusiness.
Comedians Wanda Sykes, Regina Hall, and Amy Schumer helmed the awards as CODA take out the year’s Best Picture and controversial figure Will Smith win Best Actor.
Mr Smith caused controversy earlier in the night for slapping comedian Chris Rock across the face for a joke aimed at Jada Pinkett-Smith – Mr Smith’s wife.
Australians also won out on the big night, even though Kodi Smit-McPhee – nominated for Best Supporting Actor – and Nicole Kidman – nominated for Best Actress – missed out as cinematographer Greig Fraser won for his work on sci-fi epic ‘Dune’.
