JANAE De Gannes was one of the standout performers on day one of the 2022 Trinidad and Tobago Carifta trials at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, on Saturday.
De Gannes easily made the Carifta standard of 12.13 seconds in the heats of the girls Under-17 100-metre event by clocking 11.77.
Her time was also fast enough to earn the World Under-20 (11.90) and Pan Am Junior mark (11.83).
Later in the day, De Gannes clocked 12.05 in the final.
In the boys Under-17 100m event, Khadeem Ryan (11.08), Hakeem Chinapoo (11.03), Anderson Burris (11.13) and Jamario Russell (11.08) all went under the Carifta time of 11.20.
Russell made the standard prior to Saturday.
Revell Webster showed his quality with a time of 10.53 seconds in the boys Under-20 100m.
Webster, another athlete who booked a place at Carifta earlier this year, stopped the clock in 10.53. The Carifta standard is 10.74.
In the boys Under-20 discus, Jaden James of Fatima College earned the Carifta standard of 48.75 metres with a heave of 49.98m.
Jeron James of Mercury came close to the Carifta mark after throwing 48.19m and Jayden Scott of Mercury was third with a top effort of 47.70m.
In the girls Under-17 high jump, Gianna Paul of Concorde continued to impress.
Paul, who made the Carifta standard of 1.58m earlier this year, leaped 1.65m as she continued showing form ahead of the Carifta Games.
Among the other athletes who earned the Carifta standard or set the standard again were Aaron Antoine (boys Under-20 long jump), Keone John (boys Under-20 110m hurdles), Aniqah Bailey and Kayleigh Forde (girls Under-17 1,500m), Kyle Williams and Kaiyin Morris (boys Under-17 400m), Cyril Sumner (boys Under-20 400m), Kyah La Fortune (girls Under-20 100m) and the trio of Revell Webster, Jaden De Souza and Miguel Taylor (boys Under-20 100m).
The Carifta trials continues on Sunday from 10 am.
