Winnipeg Counter Protesters Tell ‘Freedom Convoy’ to ‘Go Home’

over 2 years in news

Protesters gathered at the steps of the Manitoba Legislative Building in Winnipeg on Saturday, February 12, to demand an end to the so-called “Freedom Convoy” demonstration in the city. Footage by Twitter user @AndrewGLane shows counter-protesters gathered across the street from the convoy and carrying signs saying “science doesn’t care about your beliefs” and “truck off” . On Thursday, Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson and Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman both called on those “occupying public streets in the area of the Legislative Building to remember to be respectful of the rights of others to live and work downtown in peace.” Bowman later called the protest in the area of the Manitoba Legislature an “unlawful occupation on public streets”. Meanwhile, in Ontario, Premier Doug Ford on Friday declared a provincial state of emergency in response to the six-day blockade of a border crossing in Windsor and to the ongoing “Freedom Convoy” demonstration at Ottawa’s Parliament Hill.
