Royal Gun Salute in London’s Green Park Honors Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

over 2 years in news

Gun salutes took place around the UK on February 7 to mark 70 years since Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne in 1952. This video, taken by Greatest Hits Radio London, shows a gun salute taking place in Green Park, London, close to Buckingham Palace, on Monday. As Green Park is a Royal Park, a Royal Gun Salute was carried out with 41 rounds fired. February 6 marked the queen’s platinum jubilee, but royal salutes are traditionally not performed on Sundays, according to the British Army. In a statement the queen said, “As I look ahead with a sense of hope and optimism to the year of my Platinum Jubilee, I am reminded of how much we can be thankful for. These last seven decades have seen extraordinary progress socially, technologically and culturally that have benefited us all; and I am confident that the future will offer similar opportunities to us and especially to the younger generations in the United Kingdom and throughout the Commonwealth.” Credit: Greatest Hits Radio London via Storyful
