Islamic State leader killed in US raid in Syria

The leader of terrorist organisation Islamic State has been killed in an overnight United States special forces raid in northwest Syria.

According to US officials, IS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi detonated a bomb during the raid, which killed himself and members of his family.

Syrian rescue workers say at least 13 people were killed including six children and four women.

There were no American causalities.

Speaking after the operation President Joe Biden vowed to continue to protect America from any perceived terrorist threats.
