Sky News host Andrew Bolt says he was "struck" by the "extremely hostile" reception Prime Minister Scott Morrison got at the National Press Club today.

"He announced a $2 billion programme to help inventers and entrepreneurs turn their ideas into reality ... make us more self-sufficient, among other things, rather than go overseas," Mr Bolt said.

"I think that's a great idea - I don't know how good the programme will actually work."

Mr Bolt discussed the issue with Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood.
