Sir, – John FitzGerald’s column “Christmas tree market a seasonal lesson in supply and demand” (Business, December 27th) brings to mind a seasonal lesson in Christmas tree pricing, learned during a Galway Christmas in the early 1990s. Every December near Eyre Square, trees went on sale, alongside a sign, “Christmas Trees, £7 and £9”. When asked what was the difference between a £7 and a £9 tree, without even the slightest hesitation, the vendor said, “£2”. – Yours, etc,
