Business columnist Terry McCrann says he doesn’t hold “great hopes” for the ABC’s Q+A program when it returns in 2022.

The program’s host Stan Grant has called for more diversity on the broadcaster’s flagship program, which has floundered since former host Tony Jones left in late 2019.

“I think Stan Grant has been an improvement on the previous hosts, that he’s been prepared to foster discussion,” Mr McCrann said.

“But it’s still a conservative free, and a conservative hostile zone.

“The ABC tends to think of diversity not in terms of ideology, not in terms of viewpoints, but in terms of the range that the rainbow coalition.

“So, we get a range of different looking people, but we get them all thinking the same way.”
