Martin Trainer leads as the Irish struggle at the Houston Open

almost 4 years in The Irish Times

American Martin Trainer was the leader in the clubhouse after a partially-completed second round of the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Houston Open.
Graeme McDowell, Shane Lowry and Séamus Power all struggled during their second rounds, with McDowell currently set as the only one within the cut line on one over. The Portrush man was on three over for the day through 12 holes once play was suspended due to darkness.
Power shot a level par 70 to remain on five over overall while Lowry ended up on two over after a second round 73.
Clubhouse leader Trainer shot his second straight five-under 65 to lead by a stroke from compatriot Kevin Tway, whose rounds of 67 and 64 took him to nine-under.
After long weather delays on day one, only around half the field had completed two rounds by Friday night.
Jason Kokrak sat third at eight-under after completing 11 unblemished holes of his second round in a superb six-under par, with Adam Long a further shot away after carding 66-67.
Below an all-American top 13, England’s Aaron Rai was the best-placed among a struggling UK and Irish contingent, his rounds of 71-69 leaving him 10 off the pace in equal 43rd.
Russell Knox, Ian Poulter, Martin Laird, Tyrrell Hatton, Danny Willett and Lee Westwood all also struggled and are forecasted to miss out.
