Damien Duff confirmed as new Shelbourne manager

Damien Duff has been confirmed as the new Shelbourne manager in what will be the former Ireland international’s first foray into senior management.
Shels were promoted back to the Premier Division last month after comfortably winning the First Division under manager Ian Morris before he departed following the final day draw against UCD last Friday.
Duff has been linked with the job for some time now after first joining the club as under-17s manager and, after initially turning the senior post down last week, has agreed a deal with the club which will see them operate on a full-time basis in the Premier Division with significant investment expected from chairman Andrew Doyle and his fellow investors.
The 13-times champions of Ireland were promoted back to the top flight in 2019 after seven seasons in the First Division only to go straight back down in last year’s pandemic-hit season. However, the appointment of Duff and the move to full-time shows the ambition of the Tolka Park outfit to get back to the top of the game in Ireland.
“I’m delighted to take up the first team manager’s position at Shelbourne,” Duff said in a statement released by the club.
“Having coached and managed our U17 National League team and been around the club, I can see the plans and ambition in place here and am excited to begin a new chapter of Shelbourne’s 126 year history.
“I’m extremely passionate about youth development in Ireland and about Irish football in general and see this as a great opportunity to help build something that both the club, its fans and myself can be proud of. With the club now in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division, and the foundations being put in place by the board and its directors, I can’t wait to start.”
