Daniel Andrews condemns attack on healthcare workers

Safety concerns have forced two vaccination hubs in Melbourne’s city centre to shut after workers were spat on by anti-vaccine protesters.

The Central City and Melbourne Town Hall centres will be shut until Monday, and Cohealth said the staffers were targeted on their way to work.

Cohealth is now telling staff not to wear their uniforms or lanyards over fears they will be targeted.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews condemned the attack in a press conference on Thursday when he revealed the incident had occurred.

“Why would you abuse, why would you – as I’m told – be spitting on people who are doing that sort of work,” he said.

“That’s ugly; it’s uncalled for, I’m not sure whether those people can be identified, but if they can, it would be my expectation Victoria Police would deal with them.”
