The Australian's Adam Creighton says Australia has been "elevated internationally" in a security sense.

It comes as Prime Minister Scott Morrison is in the US for talks with US President Joe Biden amid the recent forming of the AUKUS alliance.

"We're kind of far and away the most important US ally I would say," Mr Creighton told Sky News host Paul Murray.

"That's been demonstrated recently ... it's been a great couple of weeks for Australia."
